USC Loss Means New Top Team
I couldn’t believe USC lost Thursday to Oregon State. The Trojans trailed, 21-0, at halftime. USC played better in the second half but fell short, 27-21. I expected the Trojans, given two weeks to prepare, to be ready to compete for 60 minutes. I was mistaken. The result means there’ll be changes at the top of the Associated Press poll Sunday. There will also be changes in the next update of my BCS projections Sunday night.
I’m glad the expected poor weather in the Northeast held off long enough to complete the scheduled baseball games tonight. The weekend could be a different story but at least most teams were able to play their 160th game. Only two games remain for more squads. In a handful of cities, those two games will mean everything.
I read awhile ago that the Indy Racing League signed a contract with Versus that begins next year. The Indianapolis 500 and a few other IndyCar Series races will stay on ABC but the bulk of the circuit will move to Versus, home of the NHL and Tour de France. Expect ESPN to devote minimal airtime on the IRL this spring. No channel spends time promoting competing programming and encouraging its audience to watch another station.
