Big Brown to Retire; Phillies, Rays Control Series
I was sorry to hear that Big Brown was forced to retire after suffering a right front foot injury during a training session Monday. Big Brown’s trainers planned to race him in the lucrative Breeders Cup Classic last month. Instead, he’ll be sent to stud by the end of the year. I’ve watched too many horses suffer during and after races so I’ve been turned off the sport entirely. I’m just pleased Big Brown will live a long, happy live.
The Philadelphia Phillies took a commanding three-games-to-one lead in the National League Championship Series tonight by rallying past the Los Angeles Dodgers, 7-5. L.A. led, 5-3, after seven innings by a two-run home run by Shane Victorino tied the score. Another two-run homer, this one from pinch-hitter Matt Stairs, gave Philadelphia a lead it would not relinquish. Phillie closer Brad Lidge got the last four outs to preserve the win after Dodger closer Jonathan Broxton allowed the home run to Stairs. Game 5 is set for Wednesday in Los Angeles.
The Tampa Bay Rays smashed the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park today, 9-1. The Rays now lead the American League Championship Series, 2-1. Jon Lester had been a playoff standout but he was shelled in the third inning, allowing five runs. Matt Garza performed much better against Boston than he did in last week’s Division Series and took the win. Game 4 is tomorrow night.

It is so sad to see horses and Humans injured through play and it makes it more painful even for the onlookers.
For all the chatter about steroids in sports, it’s clear that horse racing has by far the dirtiest hands in that regard.
I agree with you both. I’m happy when every horse finishes the race without injury. Even Big Brown did steroids. Horse racing is a sad sport.
