Chelsea, Inter, Juventus Among Champions League Leaders
In Group A, Bordeaux won at Cluj, 2-1. Roma bested visiting Chelsea, 3-1. Chelsea remains atop the group with seven points. Roma and Bordeaux are tied for second at six points. Cluj is at the bottom with four points.
Inter remained in first place of Group B with a 3-3 draw at Anorthosis. Meanwhile, Panathinaikos smashed host Bremen, 3-0. Inter has eight points. Anorthosis sits with five points. Panathinaikos climbed over Bremen into third with four points. Bremen is in fourth with three points.
Basel earned its first Group C point, drawing at leader Barcelona, 1-1. Sporting edged visiting Shakhtar, 1-0, in the other group match. Barcelona’s lead over Sporting was trimmed to one point, ten to nine. Shakhtar is stuck at three.
Group D co-leaders Atletico and Liverpool are still tied with eight points each after the sides finished even at 1 in Liverpool. Marseille’s 3-0 home victory over PSV put the two squads into a third-place tie.
Manchester United and Villarreal remain tied atop Group E with eight points apiece after earning road draws. Villarreal and Aalborg finished tied at 1 while Celtic and Manchester United played to a 2-2 result. Aalborg and Celtic share third with two points each.
Lyon claimed a share of the Group F lead after a 2-0 home win against Steaua. Bayern Munich managed only a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina. Lyon and Bayern each have eight points. Fiorentina rose to three points while Steaua stayed at one.
Group G leader Arsenal tied last-place Federbache at home, 0-0, but gained ground as Dynamo Kiev lost to visiting Porto, 2-1. Arsenal has eight points. Porto jumped Kiev into second place, six points to five. Federbache sits at two.
Juventus seized control of Group H with a 2-0 triumph at Real Madrid. Juventus leads second-place Real by four points, ten to six. In the other match, Zenit rose to third place with a 2-0 win at BATE. Zenit has four points to BATE’s two. Matchday 5 is slated for November 25 and 26.
