Published by xzchief at 11:57 pm under Poker Edit This

After a 117-day layoff, the World Series of Poker convened the final table of its signature Main Event today. Play was halted in July after the last nine players were determined. At the moment, four men are left at the table.

The chip leader is Ivan Demidov of Russia. Demidov reached the final table at this summer’s World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. He is easily the most experienced player remaining. Demidov has about 50 million tournament chips.

Close behind Demidov is 22-year-old Peter Eastgate. Eastgate would be the youngest-ever Main Event winner. Phil Hellmuth was 24 went he won the title in 1989. Eastgate, from Denmark, has about 47 million chips.

The two Americans left presently have the two shortest chip stacks. Dennis Phillips, of St. Louis, started the day as the chip leader. He’s struggled for a while but is on a hot streak now. He holds about 20 million. Ylon Schwartz, hailing from New York, has about 19.9 million chips. Play will continue tonight until two men are left. They’ll return Monday at 10 p.m. pacific to battle for the championship bracelet, title of world champion and more than $9.1 million.
