Published by xzchief at 11:49 pm under World Football Edit This

Morehead State defeated Alabama State, 58-43, in the opening round game of the NCAA Tournament tonight. Morehead State, playing in the tournament for the first time in 25 years, will face Louisville Friday.

Bidding closed Sunday to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. There are seven bids–including two potential joint efforts–for the 2018 event: Australia, Belgium-Netherlands, England, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Spain-Portugal and the U.S. Those seven bids also applied for the 2022 event, plus bids from Qatar and South Korea. Japan and South Korea shared hosting duties for the 2002 World Cup. South Africa will host the 2010 World Cup. Brazil will host the 2014 tournament. FIFA will determine the hosts in December 2010.

The U.S. scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally past Puerto Rico Tuesday, 6-5, and advance to the World Baseball Classic final round. Puerto Rico was eliminated. The U.S. and Venezuela will meet Wednesday to determine the group winner heading into this weekend’s semifinals. South Korea defeated Japan, 4-1, to reach the semifinals. Japan plays Cuba tomorrow to determine the fourth medal-round team.
