James Named MVP
LeBron James was officially declared the NBA’s Most Valuable Player today. He’ll receive his award–which is based on regular-season play–tomorrow night before his Cleveland Cavaliers battle the Atlanta Hawks. James garnered 90 percent of the first-place votes from a national media panel. Kobe Bryant, last season’s MVP, finished second in the voting, edging Dwyane Wade.
Speaking of Bryant, his L.A. Lakers were shocked at home by Houston, 100-92, in the first game of their Western Conference semifinal series tonight. Orlando nearly lost a 28-point lead in the third quarter at Boston before hanging onto the victory, 95-90.
Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin each registered hat tricks tonight. However, Ovechkin’s Washington side managed to scrape past visiting Pittsburgh, 4-3. The Capitals lead the series, two games to none.
