Barnes, Glover Lead U.S. Open
Ricky Barnes and Lucas Glover share the lead at the U.S. Open after darkness halted play Sunday early in the final round. Due to heavy rain overnight, today’s start was delayed from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Therefore, there was no chance of finishing 36 hours. Barnes and Glover each shot 70 during the third round and Barnes, the 2002 U.S. Amateur champion, maintained a one-stroke advantage.
However, Barnes bogeyed the first hole on the fourth round after Glover and he resumed play following a 2.5-hour break. Glover made a clean par. Barnes’s tee shot on the second hole went way left and found deep rough. Glover’s drive hit the fairway. Both men are at seven-under par.
Play was suspended just before 8 p.m. eastern and both players hurried off the course. Barnes, in particular, could use the timeout offered to him. Tiger Woods completed seven holes in the last round and sits at even-par. Phil Mickelson is tied for third place at two-under par. Play is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. eastern Monday.
Dario Franchitti won the IndyCar event in Iowa. Kasey Kahne won the NASCAR street race in Sonoma. Sebastian Vettel won the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
