Form Holds at Wimbledon
The first round continued at Wimbledon Tuesday with no major upsets. Marat Safin, the 14th seed, was upended by Jesse Martin in four sets. Dmitry Turnasov, the 25th seed, dropped the first two sets to Mischa Zverev before retiring in the third set. Nicolas Kiefer, awarded the 33rd seed after Rafael Nadal withdraw, was defeated in straight sets by Fabrice Santoro.
The women’s draw held at the top although several near the bottom of the top 32 were beaten. Kaia Kanepi, Agnes Szavay, Alize Cornet, Sybille Bammer and Anna Chakvetadze fell today.
Texas defeated Louisiana State, 5-1, to even the best-of-three final at the College World Series. Taylor Jungmann tossed a complete game for Texas. He allowed five hits and threw 126 pitches. The deciding game will be Wednesday.
The NBA Draft is Thursday. The Los Angeles Clippers are expected to pick Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin with the first pick. From there, the rest of the draft is expected to be exciting and confusing.
