Cavs Get Shaq
Cleveland acquired Shaquille O’Neal tonight from Phoenix. Phoenix will receive Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic, a second-round pick in tomorrow’s draft and $500,000. Cleveland hopes O’Neal is the missing piece to their championship puzzle. O’Neal hopes LeBron James can be the outside option for his next championship, like Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade before him.
Maria Sharapova was bounced from Wimbledon Wednesday. She fell in the second round for the second straight year. This time, she lost to Gisela Dulko, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
The U.S. upset Spain, 2-0, in the semifinal of the UEFA Confederations Cup. Jozy Altidore scored in the 27th minute. Clint Dempsey’s tally in the 73rd minute clinched the match. The U.S. will play in Sunday’s final against the winner of tomorrow’s match against Brazil and South Africa.
Louisiana State broke open a close contest to defeat Texas, 11-4, in the deciding game of the College World Series. LSU scored three runs in the first inning and another run in the second. By the fifth inning, Texas had tied the score at four. LSU scored five runs in the sixth and was never seriously threatened the rest of the way en route to its sixth baseball national championship.
