Briscoe, Keselowski Win Races
Tiger Woods leads after three rounds of the Buick Open. His 65 today put him at 17-under par. Michael Letzig’s double bogey at the 18th hole dropped him to 16-under par. Letzig and Woods will comprise the final group Sunday.
Fred Funk leads the U.S. Senior Open. Catriona Matthew is the leader at the Women’s Open Championship. Steve Webster claimed the third-round lead in the Czech Republic’s European Tour event after Ignacio Garrido’s final-hole double bogey.
Brad Keselowski squeaked past Kyle Busch to claim the Nationwide Series race in Iowa tonight. Ryan Briscoe edged Ed Carpenter to win the IndyCar series race in Kentucky. The race was the first in the series to feature the “Power to Pass” button.
The feature was a staple of the old Champ Car series but when the two open-wheel series merged last year, Power to Pass didn’t come. There was a slight change to the system tonight. Under Champ Car rules, drivers had up to 60 seconds of extra horsepower to use at any point during the race. A driver could hit the button for five seconds, for example, to try to make a pass. IndyCar drivers were able to push the button a maximum of 20 times tonight to get additional power.
