Colts Edge Dolphins

Published by xzchief at 10:40 pm under Football Edit This

Miami enjoyed a 3-to-1 possession advantage against Indianapolis Monday. However, Indianapolis (2-0) scored touchdowns on its first and last offensive plays to defeat Miami (0-2), 27-23.

Peyton Manning threw for 303 yards to pace the Colts. Miami gained more than 230 rushing yards. The Indianapolis defense seemed exhausted in the fourth quarter but the Dolphins were not able to take advantage of the situation on their final drive. Chad Pennington’s last-gasp pass was intercepted in the end zone as time expired.

Phoenix rallied past San Antonio, 100-92, to win its WNBA playoff series, two games to one. The conference finals start Wednesday. Indiana plays at Detroit and Phoenix visits Los Angeles.

New York will have to wait at least one more day to officially clinch the first of eight spots in the Major League Baseball playoffs. The Yankees lost in Anaheim, 5-2. Texas trounced Oakland, 10-3. One New York win or Texas loss means the Yankees will qualify for the playoffs. Boston, Los Angeles and Detroit seem poised to be the other three playoff teams from the American League.

Los Angeles, St. Louis and Philadelphia could clinch National League postseason berths this week. Colorado leads San Francisco in the wild-card race by four games. The regular season ends Oct. 4.
