Angels, Dodgers, Yankees Take Series Leads
Los Angeles baseball fans are thrilled after their teams started the baseball playoffs 3-0. The Dodgers defeated St. Louis, 5-1 and 3-2, to claim a 2-0 series advantage. Game 3 will be Saturday in St. Louis. The Angels won their opener, 5-0, against Boston. Game 2 will be Friday in Anaheim.
Colorado split two games in Philadelphia. The Phillies won Game 1 Wednesday, 5-1. The Rockies earned Game 2 today, 5-4. Colorado hosts Game 3 Saturday. Meanwhile, New York blew out Minnesota, 7-2, in the first game of its series. The Yankees host Game 2 Friday.
The U.S. leads the International Team after the first day of the Presidents Cup, 3.5-2.5. Thursday featured six foursome, or alternate shot, matches. Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker humbled Geoff Ogilvy and Ryo Ishikawa, 6 and 4. Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim beat Mike Weir and Tim Clark, 3 and 2. Kenny Perry and Zach Johnson defeated Angel Cabrera and Camilo Villegas, 2 up.
For the Internationals, Vijay Singh and Robert Allenby edged, Lucas Glover and Stewart Cink, 1 up. Adam Scott and Ernie Els dispatched Sean O’Hair and Hunter Mahan, 2 and 1. Retief Goosen and Y.E. Yang halved with Jim Furyk and Justin Leonard. There will be six fourball, or better ball, matches Friday.
Phoenix won at Indiana, 90-77, Wednesday to even the WNBA Finals at two games each. The decisive fifth game will be Friday at Phoenix. Alvaro Quiros leads after one round of the Madrid Masters. Serena Williams will be the number-one ranked women’s tennis player once computer rankings are released next week.
Nebraska scored four last-period touchdown to roll past Missouri, 27-12, tonight. The game featured Big 12 North rivals, two top-25 squads and was played in a torrential rainstorm in Columbia. Both teams are now 4-1. In the Sun Belt Conference Tuesday, Troy smashed Middle Tennessee State, 31-7.
