TCU Stays Unbeaten

Texas Christian crushed Brigham Young, 35-13, in today’s only game pitting two top-20 college football teams. The #8 Horned Frogs (7-0, 3-0) took control of the Mountain West Conference by dismantling the #16 Cougars (6-2, 3-1) in Provo. TCU also hopes to earn a BCS bid by remaining undefeated.

Saturday’s biggest upset was Clemson (4-3, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) outlasting host #10 Miami (5-2, 2-2), 40-37, in overtime. Kansas lost its second straight Big 12 contest as the #25 Jayhawks (5-2, 1-2) were humbled in Lawrence by Oklahoma (4-3, 2-1), 35-13. No other top 25 team lost today.

Rain postponed Game 6 of the American League Championship Series between New York and Los Angeles. The game at Yankee Stadium has been rescheduled for Sunday.

Michael Jonzon leads after 54 holes of the Castello Masters. Troy Matteson fired consecutive rounds of 61 to claim a two-stroke advantage at the PGA Tour stop in Scottsdale. Matteson’s combined 122 for yesterday and today is the lowest-ever 36 hole score in a PGA Tour event.

Andy Bean and Russ Cochran share the lead entering the final round of the Champions Tour event in San Antonio. Cochran was also a first-round co-leader. The other Friday co-leader, Keith Clearwater, struggled to a three-over par 74 Saturday. Clearwater fell into a tie for 17th place.

Saskatchewan (9-6-1) earned a CFL playoff berth by edging British Columbia (8-8), 33-30, in Regina Saturday. Winnipeg (7-9) upset visiting Montreal (13-3), 41-24.

Brad Keselowski won the Nationwide Series race in Martinsville. Lyoto Machida successfully defended his UFC light-heavyweight belt with a unanimous decision over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Machida won the five-round fight on all three judges’ cards, 48-47. Many onlookers thought Rua won the match. In the co-main event, Cain Velasquez maintained his perfect mixed martial arts record by knocking out Ben Rothwell 58 seconds into the second round of their heavyweight match.
