UNC Wins Season Opener
Pittsburgh rallied past host Denver, 28-10, Monday night. Both teams are 6-2. The college basketball season began yesterday. Fourth-ranked North Carolina handled Florida International, 88-72. California, rated #12, outlasted Morgan State, 75-70, and #17 Ohio State crushed Alcorn State, 100-60. Syracuse, ranked #25, smacked Albany, 75-43.
The American League Gold Glove winners were announced today. The outfielders are Torii Hunter, Adam Jones and Ichiro Suzuki. The infielders are Mark Teixeira, Placido Polanco, Derek Jeter and Evan Longoria. The battery is Joe Mauer and Mark Buehrle.
In the NBA tonight, Orlando defeated New Orleans, 93-81. Denver edged Chicago, 90-89. Dallas smashed Houston, 121-103. Miami defeated Washington, 90-76. Portland hammered Memphis, 93-79. Sacramento squeaked past Oklahoma City, 101-98.
In the NHL Tuesday, Boston blanked Pittsburgh, 3-0. Calgary shut out Montreal, 1-0. St. Louis crushed Vancouver, 6-1. Minnesota throttled Toronto, 5-2. Ottawa beat Edmonton in a shootout, 4-3. San Jose outlasted Nashville, 4-3.
