Woods Claims Australian Masters Lead

Tiger Woods seized a three-shot advantage late in the second round of the Australian Masters in Melbourne. Robert-Jan Derksen and Charl Schwartzel share the lead as second-round play continues at the Hong Kong Open.

Song-Hee Kim leads after the first round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara. Justin Rose leads following 18 holes at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic in Orlando.

San Francisco broke a four-game losing streak by forcing Jay Cutler to throw five interceptions and defeating visiting Chicago, 10-6. Both teams are now 4-5.

Rutgers (7-2, 2-2 Big East) upset #24 South Florida (6-3, 2-3), 31-0, at home Thursday. Northern Illinois (7-3, 5-1 Mid-American Conference) defeated visiting Ball State (1-9, 1-5), 26-20.

Florida (5-0) clinched the outright UFL regular-season title with a 24-6 victory at New York (0-5). The Tuskers, who will play in the Nov. 27 championship game, broke open a 10-6 game with one touchdown in each of the last two quarters.

Italy won the Fed Cup by defeating the U.S., 4-0, in the final Sunday in Calabria. Flavia Pennetta defeated Alexa Glatch, 6-3, 6-1. Francesca Schiavone beat Melanie Oudin, 7-6 (2), 6-2. Pennetta bested Oudin, 7-5, 6-2. The last singles match between Schiavone and Glatch wasn’t played. Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci won the doubles over Liezel Huber and Vania King, 4-6, 6-3, (11-9).
