Bearcats Edge WVU, Stay Unbeaten
Cincinnati maintained its unbeaten record and kept its national championship hopes alive as the #5 Bearcats (10-0, 6-0 Big East) held off #25 West Virginia (7-3, 3-2), 24-21, at home Friday. Temple (8-2, 6-0 Mid-American Conference) smashed host Akron (2-8, 1-5), 56-17.
Tiger Woods struggled to a third-round 72 Saturday at the Australian Masters and lost his three-stroke advantage. Nonetheless, Woods remains tied atop the leaderboard with James Nitties and Greg Chalmers with 18 holes to play.
Gregory Boudry leads midway through the third round of the Hong Kong Open. Justin Leonard leads halfway through the Children’s Miracle Network Classic at Walt Disney World. Jiyal Shin is the 36-hole leader at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico.
Baseball’s Silver Slugger Awards were announced Thursday. Winners in the American League are Jason Bay, Aaron Hill, Torii Hunter, Evan Longoria, Derek Jeter, Adam Lind, Joe Mauer, Ichiro Suzuki and Mark Teixeira. Winners in the National League are Ryan Braun, Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, Brian McCann, Albert Pujois, Hanley Ramirez, Chase Utley, Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Zimmerman.
