Colts Rally Past Patriots; Wie Wins First Tournament
Indianapolis recovered from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to remain undefeated as the Colts (9-0) survived against New England (6-3). Elsewhere around the NFL, Tennessee (3-6) throttled Buffalo (3-6), 41-17. Miami (4-5) edged Tampa Bay (1-8), 25-23. Carolina (4-5) upended Atlanta (5-4), 28-19. Kansas City (2-7) prevailed over Oakland (2-7), 16-10. Green Bay (5-4) stuffed Dallas (6-3), 17-7. Arizona (6-3) rallied past Seattle (3-6), 31-20.
New Orleans is still unbeaten but St. Louis (1-8) pushed the Saints (9-0) before falling, 28-23. Minnesota (8-1) smashed Detroit (1-8). Jacksonville (4-5) squeaked past the New York Jets (4-5), 24-22. Cincinnati (7-2) outlasted Pittsburgh (6-3), 18-12. Washington (3-6) upset Denver (6-3), 27-17. San Diego (6-3) held off Philadelphia (5-4), 31-23.
Michelle Wie shot a 69 Sunday to claim her first LPGA title. Wie won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico by two shots over Paula Creamer.
Jimmie Johnson won the NASCAR Cup Series race in Phoenix. East Carolina (6-4, 5-1 Conference USA) trounced host Tulsa (4-6, 2-4), 44-17.
Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Mike Neff (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) won their classes of the NHRA finale at Pomona. Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) and Hector Arana (Pro Stock Motorcycle) claimed the year-long championships.
Gregory Boudry won the Hong Kong Open. Stephen Ames won the Children’s Miracle Network Classic, the PGA Tour season-ending event, after a two-hole playoff. Ames fired a final-round 64 to reach a playoff with Justin Leonard and George McNeill. Leonard bogeyed the first extra hole to be eliminated. McNeill bogeyed the second hole to enable Ames to win the tournament at Walt Disney World for the second time in three years.
British Columbia won at Hamilton, 34-27, in the CFL Western Division semifinal. BC plays at Saskatchewan next Sunday in the West final. Calgary edged visiting Edmonton, 24-21, in the East semifinal. Montreal hosts Calgary in the East final.
