Nets Sink to 0-14
Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League began today. In Group E, Liverpool (seven points) won at Debreceni (zero points), 1-0, and Fiorentina (12 points) defeated visiting Lyon (10 points), 1-0. In Group F, Barcelona (eight points) beat guest Inter Milan (six points), 2-0, and Dynamo Kiev (five points) drew at Rubin Kazan (six points), 0-0.
In Group G, Stuttgart (six points) won at Rangers (two points), 2-0, and Unirea Urziceni (eight points) edged visiting Seville (10 points), 1-0. In Group H, Arsenal (13 points) blanked guest Standard Liege (four points), 2-0, and Olympiakos (seven points) tied at Alkmaar (three points), 0-0. The other four groups play Wednesday.
New Jersey dropped to 0-14 after losing at Denver, 101-87, Tuesday. The Nets visit Portland Wednesday.
Tennessee won its fourth straight game after a 0-6 start as the Titans edged Houston, 20-17, Monday night. The host Texans fell to 5-5. Tennessee began last season 10-0 but had lost 10 of its following 13 games including a postseason defeat before starting its current winning streak.
Joe Mauer was named American League Most Valuable Player. Albert Pujois earned his third National League MVP award. Mike Scioscia (Los Angeles) and Jim Tracy (Colorado) was chosen AL and NL Managers of the Year, respectively.
Anna Nordqvist won the LPGA Tour Championship Monday. Jiyai Shin earned the most money. Lorena Ochoa emerged with her fourth consecutive Player of the Year award.
