Longhorns Outlast Aggies

Texas had to work much harder than expected but the #3 Longhorns completed their undefeated regular season with a 49-39 Thanksgiving night victory over Texas A&M in College Station. Texas improved to 12-0, 8-0 in the BIg 12 and awaits Nebraska in Dec. 5’s conference championship game.

The Longhorns are expected to play in the BCS title game should they win next week. Meanwhile, the host Aggies fell to 6-6, 3-5 in the conference. The 88 combined points were the most ever in the rivalry that spans 116 games.

The NFL contests today were not as compelling. Green Bay (7-4) smashed Detroit (2-9), 34-12. Dallas (8-3) throttled Oakland (3-8), 24-7. Denver (7-4) ended its four-game losing streak by disposing of the New York Giants (6-5), 26-6.

In the NHL Thursday, Ottawa defeated Columbus, 2-1, and Vancouver leads Los Angeles, 2-1, in the third period. In the NBA tonight, Orlando thrashed Atlanta, 93-76, and Utah is ahead of Chicago, 68-50, in the third quarter.

Ball State (2-10, 2-6 Mid-American Conference) upset host Western Michigan (5-7, 4-4), 22-17, Tuesday. The Irish team of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell leads the World Cup of Golf early in the second round at Mission Hills, China. McIlroy and McDowell shot a first-round 58 in the better-ball format. The second round features an alternate shot format.
