Colts Still Perfect, Nets Still Winless
Indianapolis remained unbeaten with a 35-27 victory over Houston. The Texans (5-6) jumped to a 17-0 second-quarter advantage. Houston led, 20-14, after three quarters before the Colts (11-0) responded with three fourth-period touchdowns.
In other games Sunday, Atlanta (6-5) rallied past Tampa Bay (1-10), 20-17. Buffalo (4-7) upended Miami (5-6), 31-14. Cincinnati (8-3) stifled Cleveland (1-10), 16-7. Seattle (4-7) beat St. Louis (1-10), 27-17. The New York Jets (5-6) defeated Carolina (4-7), 17-6. Philadelphia (7-4) outlasted Washington (3-8), 27-24.
Elsewhere around the NFL, San Diego (8-3) thrashed Kansas City (3-8), 43-14. San Francisco (5-6) dispatched Jacksonville (6-5), 20-3. Tennessee (5-6) shocked Arizona (7-4), 20-17. Minnesota (10-1) crushed Chicago (4-7), 36-10. Baltimore (6-5) edged Pittsburgh (6-5), 20-17, in overtime.
Montreal (17-3) scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to erase a 20-10 deficit and defeat Saskatchewan (11-8-1), 28-27, to claim the Grey Cup. Montreal had been the Canadian Football League’s best team all season but struggled in the final in Calgary against an inspired Saskatchewan squad.
The Alouettes trailed by two on the final play when a 43-yard field goal was missed. However, the Roughriders had too many players on the field. Given a second chance, Montreal converted a 33-yard kick to end the game.
Edoardo and Francesco Molinari won the World Cup of Golf for Italy today. The pair finished Sunday’s final round at 29-under par for 72 holes. The Swedish pair of Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson and the Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell tied for second place, one shot behind the Italians.
New Jersey fired coach Lawrence Frank Sunday afternoon and named assistant coach Tom Barrise the interim leader. Tonight, the Nets began the Barrise era by tying the worst-ever start to an NBA season. New Jersey is now 0-17 after losing to Los Angeles, 106-87. The defending champion Lakers improved to 13-3.
The Lakers put the game out of reach early. Los Angeles led 27-12 after one period, 59-34 at the half, and 87-60 after three quarters.
New Jersey matched the marks of the 1988 Miami Heat and 1999 Los Angeles Clippers. The Nets will try to avoid an historic 0-18 record in their next game Wednesday at home against Dallas.
